what is a cognitive assessment
Cognitive assessment helps clarify reasoning, problem-solving, working memory, and processing speed. It can support education planning, understanding learning efficiency, and guiding supports. Moi Clinic offers cognitive assessment testing in Rowville and Frankston for children, teens and adults.
Areas that are tested for in a cognitive test include:
- Verbal comprehension: Interpreting, defining and reasoning about language.
- Perceptual / visual-spatial reasoning: Viewing patterns and resolving problems using shapes/visual data.
- Fluid reasoning (for children only): Assessing a child’s ability to solve new problems and understand abstract relationships.
- Working memory: Remembering and dealing with information in mind briefly.
- Processing speed: Quick visual discriminations with time constraints which are accurate.
