Speech & Language Screeners in Melbourne
How do we screen communication

What is a speech and language screener?
Not sure if you need a full speech assessment? Start With a Screener
Speech and Language screenings provide a snapshot of your child’s speech and language abilities to determine if further assessment/intervention is required. Speech and language screenings can be completed in a shorter time than a formal assessment and can either be done separately or together.
Types of speech and language screeners we use
we provide a range of screeners and therapeutic support to meet your needs
A language screener involves your child completing the Renfrew Action Picture Test (RAPT), in which 10 pictures are shown, and questions are asked about each one. Each answer is considered for the amount of information provided and the level of grammar used.
A speech screener involves completing a short speech picture test to determine what specific sounds your child can and cannot say accurately.
Each speech and language screener can be combined or completed independently of the others.
Language Sample
collecting and analysing a child’s natural speech during play, conversation, or a structured task.
RAPT
A brief standardised tool used to assess a child’s expressive language, including sentence structure, grammar, and vocabulary, by describing action pictures.
Parent and Educator Questionnaires
Gather information about a child’s communication skills across everyday home and school environments to help identify areas of concern.
Speech Sound Screener
Briefly assess a child’s ability to correctly produce speech sounds to identify possible articulation or phonological difficulties.
